Mark Winter

Following a successful career in finance and banking, Mark, along with fellow directors and shareholders, invested in UKRL having spotted the potential of the business. He is now Managing Director of UKRL and fully focused on developing the businesses.

Going back to the start of his career, Mark completed a law degree and then qualified as a Barrister. Mark then switched track to work in finance and has held some very senior positions including, Senior Treasurer for Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank and Barclays Bank, and also Head of Funding and Capital Markets at Bradford and Bingley.

Mark’s enthusiasm for UKRL saw him take up the position of Managing Director and he has transformed the business from one that was purchasing locomotives and associated railway vehicles and then leasing those to train operating companies in the UK and abroad, into the significant operation it is today.

Under Mark’s leadership, the company is looking to expand and innovate; to always be at the forefront of providing engineering services and support to the rail sector.

Gareth joined UKRL in 2021. Gareth joined UKRL from the Wabtec Corporation in 2021, where he was Financial Controller and Projects Controller, overseeing the Cost to Complete and project reporting process across various business units. Previous to that he worked for one of the big four accountancy practices, supporting his client’s businesses in Audit, Tax and Advisory Services.

At UKRL he now leads the finance function of the business.

Prior to joining UKRL, Gareth spent 16 years in the lift and escalator industry in various technical and supervisory roles. He then took that valuable experience to move into the Rail industry where it was highly relevant.

Gareth has now been at UKRL for eight years and he was instrumental in setting up the depot in Leicester for Traincare. He is now responsible for UKRL’s Traincare offerings aswell as providing our compliance oversight. He was the project manager leading the contract with Cross Country to deliver Traincare to fully service six Turbostar trains each night at the Leicester depot. He has been further involved in continuous improvements at the Leicester depot to service the demand for Traincare from other regional operators.

Andrew joined UKRL bringing 15 years of diesel engine fault finding and overhaul experience.

Since starting at UKRL in 2015 Andrew has led various roles within the business from production to technical manager.

Andrew now leads the sales and commercial activities at UKRL.

Martin joined UKRL in 2020 and heads up UKRL’s Engineering Division, working closely with the Engineering Director.

With over twenty years’ experience in the rail industry. Martin has held many senior technical roles at Brush Traction, Wabtec, and Wabtec Faiveley.

He has a huge amount of traction knowledge having worked on various classes of locomotives, including:

Class 08/09, Class 20,31, 33, 37, 43, 47,56,57,60, 66, 70, 73, 86, 87, 90, 91’s, 92’s and shuttle.

Alan has over 37 years’ experience managing, developing and leading large multi-disciplined teams to deliver results within the rail industry, in particular fleet and depot management.

Starting with UKRL in 2013 Alan has a proven ability in many key roles within Virgin/Cross Country, LNER, ATW, London Midland and latterly Head of Engineering at DCR.

Alan handles major initiatives and projects with key customers for UKRL.

Chris joined UKRL in Feb 2022 bringing with him over 36 years’ experience working at Brush Traction (Wabtec), where he held the position of Sales and Commercial Director and prior to this had been Head of Projects and Material Control Manager.

He has vast experience in all aspects of the delivery of Locomotive and Passenger Rail Vehicle projects including scheduled Maintenance Exams, Refurbishment/Overhaul and Engineering Modifications.

At UKRL, Chris manages Sales, Tendering and Project delivery.

Darren has vast experience in all aspects of production having built up relationships with all the major freight operating companies and train operating companies (TOCs) in the Rail industry.

Prior to joining UKRL, Darren spent a total of 31 years at the Bush Group of companies; the last 17 of which were spent at Brush Traction (Wabtec), in a variety of senior management positions,

Darren now leads an experienced team at UKRL in his role as General Manager.

Jamie joined UKRL in 2014. He has built up a great deal of experience, having held roles in production, planning and material supply functions. As UKRL’s Stores Manager, Jamie is responsible for the company’s extensive stores and supply chain. Jamie now manages the UKRL Spares team, who can always track down a ‘hard to find’ component or help solve component replacement issues due to obsolescence.

Prior to joining UKRL in 2022, Scott spent 16 years at Brush Traction (Wabtec) working in multiple production and operational roles across the business, on various classes of locos and vehicles.

He brings with him experience of planning, production engineering, lean implementation and production management.

Scott now leads the planning and production functions at UKRL.
