Gareth joined UKRL in 2023 to lead the company following twenty years within the rail industry.

Having spent much of his career at OEM’s Bombardier and Hitachi Rail, he brings broad experience from across the entire product life-cycle, with a particular emphasis on leading service and maintenance business units.

Gareth believes that a service organisation can only thrive with great people. He strives to enable and empower the team to deliver and add value for UKRL’s customers.

Paul is a proven sales professional who has well over 25 years’ experience and as such, he knows the industry extremely well. He has a rounded background in fleet services, overhaul, component supply & repairs and new build sales. 

Notably, Paul has previously been accountable for sales at EMD Progress Rail, Gemini group. 

Paul joined UKRL in May 2024 from CAF where he held a senior business development  role.

John commenced his rail career over 35 years ago as a British Rail apprentice. He has spent most of that time within rail, with a period also at JCB. 

John has run new build train production lines, train maintenance depots and overhaul facilities. 

John led the mobilisation of Bombardier’s Crossrail maintenance operation (Elizabeth line) and oversaw the operational design for its new Old Oak Common depot. 

He joined UKRL in May 2024 from Hitachi Rail where he held the position of Head of Operations.

A seasoned finance professional having occupied local & global Finance Director, Project Director and Board member roles over his career spanning more than three decades.

Scott has vast experience in Manufacturing and Engineering organisations including independent consulting.

Scott Joined UKRL in October 2024 and brings a proven track record of financial business partnering and driving transformational change in multi £billion organisations.

Since early beginnings as a technician apprentice in York Steve brings over 4 decades of rail industry experience to UKRL.

Having held senior positions in manufacturing, maintenance and rolling stock leasing sectors he went on to establish his own management consultancy in 2012. 

Previously a Board member with Vivarail, RISAS and a Local Authority, Steve now serves on the UKRL Board as Chairman.

Edward Stevenson

Edward founded UKRL along with fellow shareholder Mark Winter. 

As an avid locomotive enthusiast and active preservationist, Edward is well known within and passionate about the rail community.

He has developed his career within the banking and financial services industry over the last twenty five years. 

Edward now holds the position of Global Head of Debt, Capital Markets for BBVA.

Mark completed a law degree and qualified as a Barrister. Mark then switched track to work in banking and finance and has held senior positions for Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank and Barclays Bank.

After retiring from the banking industry Mark, together with Edward Stevenson, founded UKRL building the business and serving as Managing Director until 2023. 

Mark has now assumed the role of non executive Director.

Kristian was an original investor in UKRL when it was founded in 2013. Since then, he has played an active role in the development and governance of the business. 

Kristian has completed tenures as both Managing Director and Chair of the Board.

Following a successful career in banking, Kristian developed his own investment portfolio and remains an active board member for UKRL.

Julian commenced his commercial law career in the early 90’s as a trainee with Clifford Chance. 

His career has seen him hold various senior legal roles mainly within the financial services sector. 

Julian now leads a multi-national team of over 300 legal professional with BNP Paribas where he holds the position of Global Head of Derivatives & securities, Legal.
